I buy a lot of music and I discover a lot of new music that I like that I've never heard of while looking for new music. Kinda one of the fun things about shopping for music. Because of this I seldom find myself in the position of looking forward to a new release by a particular artist. Basically there is so much great new music coming out all of the time now, that looking forward to seeing what's new in the shops is enough.

Having said that though, there is a new album that I am actually really looking forward to seeing be released. I don't know why, but this particular artists music just hits the spot for me. They craft such wonderful compositions and bring together such a varied bunch of styles and somehow work it all into a creative and cohesive whole. Better than that, they make it sound great.

I don't like hyping a particular artist, but I really think that the quality and artistry of this particular artists work is worthy of a much larger audience, not to mention boatloads of respect. I'm hoping here to do my bit to try and help them to achieve that.

Okay enough embarrassing myself raving about an album release. I imagine a lot of you are also looking forward to this release anyway. I know the DJ's are. This is for those that may not be familiar with this artist and the wonderful music that they are making.

Basically, just read the artists blog included below, as it states the case far more eloquently than I could.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

New Album - Roots and Wire - Wagon Repair - 13/10

I am pleased to announce that the new album entitled Roots and Wire will be released on October 13 2008 by Wagon Repair. I'm very happy with the results, particularly at finally getting the chance to collaborate with Tiki aka Paul St Hilaire.

Press is below, hilarious new press pics by Lars Borges and some previews of the album are up in the player. For any press inquiries please contact Melissa Taylor at Tailored Communcation melissa_at_tailored-communcation.com

-------------------

Deadbeat is Scott Monteith, a long time Montrealer and recent Berlin ex-pat who has been releasing his own special blend of dub laden, minimal electronics since 2000, for labels such as Cynosure, Musique Risquée, Scape, and Spectral to name but a few. His work has been met with consistent critical acclaim from the industry's leading publications, and drawn regular performance invitations for some of the world's most respected festivals and clubs, including Barcelona's Sonar, Berlin's Transmediale, and Montreal's Mutek alongside Panorama Bar, fabric and the like. His eagerly anticipated new album sees him continue his relationship with kindred spirits Wagon Repair in his own inimitable techno/dub/dancehall/house style.

Those familiar with Deadbeat's last album, which felt much more a collection of tracks, will be immediately struck by Roots and Wire's larger cohesive narrative arc after first listen. The album is aesthetically informed by his longterm collaborative friendship with Robert Henke (monolake), the creative relationship with Wagon Repair, the close proximity of his fellow artists in Berlin and the opportunity to collaborate with Paul St Hilaire (Tikiman). It is no surprise that an album of such vast scope be largely inspired by the artist's own transition from Montreal based producer releasing on Berlin label ~scape for 5 years, to Berlin based producer releasing on a Canadian label. An uncanny logic is present throughout, weaving a fluid narrative from disparate influences and styles.

Opener 'Rise Again' is the first of two collaborations with Tikiman, whose beautiful Rasta lament is supported by a huge bass sound. In recording all of the virtual instruments through mic'd speakers as one would do with a real band, he's given the track a distinctly 'live' feel that is a thematic element of all the tracks on the album. The sense of space and breathing room tone this recording process produces also makes the bass sound even larger than it already is.

Title track 'Roots and Wire' transcends the 140 bpm dubstep standard, and closely resembles some of Deadbeat's earlier releases on ~scape as a distinctive melodica line leads. 'Grounation (Berghain Drum Jack)' is a dramatic percussive onslaught that draws parallels between ritualistic Rasta drumming celebrations and Berghain's own pummeling percussive endurance tests.

'Xberg Ghosts' explores a distinctly Berliner Basic Channel / Chain Reaction sound, that's been a big influence for Scott over the years, with an extended mix to follow shortly on vinyl.. 'Deep Structure' employs a truly roots production style using spring reverb, bucket brigade delays and heavy compression, but applying these older tools to a more modern house groove, exploring the ties between modern dance music and it's roots in dub.

The late night jam of 'Night Stepping' and lazy afternoon dub of 'Sun People (Dub Divisionaire)' lay a path for closing track 'Babylon Correction', which again features Tikiman. Frustrated that the recent renewed interest in dub seems to mostly encompass "minor key, sad, dark shit", this is Deadbeat's attempt to capture the righteous and uplifting side to the style that are the key to his favourite classic dub cuts, with Tikiman contributing vocals so massive they might just knock you off your seat.

I'd buy hardcopy, but it's an easier process if I can just go right to digital audio files.

Greetings from beat church and spirituual technologies...
Please come join us next thursday for another spectacular night at beat church. This is going to be an extra special night. We will be hosting the MUTI music cd release party for muti's new compilation "clipping paths" one of the finest compilation's I have run across in a long time...full of super fresh phat chunky tracks from our all star family talent. We will be featuring two of the artists on the
compilation...Timonkey and Nanda...both from santa cruz (Sant Cruz in da HOUSE!), as well as muti's owner & founder DOV (an increadible producer and dj in his own right) plus Kitty~D and myself will be filling in whatever gaps there are. With this full on line up you a guaranteed an increadable night of fresh cutting edge new original music from all of these artists. Rumor has it that timonkey will be throwin' down and all original set with 13 never heard before tracks he's just been conjuring up in the studio. I've been wanting to get these guys into the church for a long time and it all came together for this cd release party. Both Nanda and Tim are increadible producers who hide out in there studio's conjuring up all this magic and don't get a chance to play very often, so this is a very special oportunity to catch them both on the same night in the ideal setting of Beat Church's fun intimate family dancin' vibe...you know how we do it. This will surely be another church you won't want to miss! If you havn't checked em' out before check out there myspaces and then come join us at beat church and rock out to the increadible juicy underground sounds.

This will also be a special preview for the new MUTI music EP "cloud city" (first chance to hear the new jams!)

Also the first 10 people in the door get a free CD and we will have a limited amount of budget priced $5 CDs specially for the party

Please join us this Thursday for church as we welcome a couple of long awaited special guests. Know One (Noah) has been rockin' it for ages with original tracks and eclectic selections that completely align with beat churches continuing exploration into sound alchemy. Always pushing the limits of new sound explorations we are glad to finally have him in the congregation. You are all also in for a very special treat with Mimosa. Many of you may have not heard of this sound master, if not you are in for a delectable eargasm, this guy is definitely one of the hidden gems of the bay area. Busting out all original material in the low/mid tempo phat squishy bass audio spectrum that will appease the mind, body and soul. As always kitty-d and myself will be filling out the aural spectrum for the complete beat church experience you know in love. This night promises to be one of our better ones, so if you haven't made it out in a while or are on the fence this would be a good night to make it out. Always thanks for your continued support of the cutting edge underground music scene and keepin the "church" alive!

<<<<VIBRASPHERE, Los Angeles Sept. 14th>>>>

Vibrasphere Los Angeles, Friday, Sept. 14th

Not too many times you get the opportunity to hear Vibrasphere play live, and when we heard that Rickard was going to be in California during that date, we couldn’t resist!!

So as a result….

TerraKroma is ready to share an “Electro Oyster” experience for all yall that wanna join in on some progressive minimal grooves, with Vibrasphere and also with some of California’s more preferable progressive DJ’s.

(Live Set)

Vibrasphere (Tribal Vision Records)

(Dj sets)

Treavor (moon tribe)(www.desertdwellers.org)
Spyros (psytribe)
Brian Rae (Green Sector)
Earth Bag ( TerraKroma)
Armando (TerraKroma)

VIBRASPHERE (Tribal Vision Records)
Legendary Trance act, Vibrasphere has been providing beautiful psychedelic sounds for a long while now with over 100 released productions to their name and gigs in all over the world, they are without a doubt and fo shizzly one of the most respected trance acts period! Never staying with the same sound, Vibrasphere has always brilliantly shown the ability to change their styles from album to album. Early releases “Echo” (2001) on legendary label ‘Spiral Trax’ one of my all time favorites and “Lime Structure” (2003) on ‘Digital Structures’ further established themselves as truly one of the top progressive trance acts. Their 3rd Album, “Archipelago” (also on Digital Structures) was regarded as one of the best releases of 2006, along with one of my favorite tracks of 2006 “floating free”. Now they have blessed us yet again in 2007 with their 4th full length studio album, “Exploring the Tributaries” this time on Tribal Vision Records. Showcasing once again a different side of the duo’s productions, “Exploring the Tributaries” . Not an album to be missed by all you proggy electro minimal lovers.

Treavor (Moontribe) (www.desertdwellers.org)
Joining in on the fun is one of L.A’s finest on the Progressive Electro front with Treavor one of the Co-founders of L.A’s legendary underground scene Moontribe, and also MoonTribe’s resident dj, Treavor is known for his blending of PsyTrance to chunky supercharged Breaks flowing over to a Progressive-Tribal House sound all while smoothing out even the thickest edges with grooving down-tempo ambiances.
Spyros (Psytribe)
Also we’re blessed to have Spyros One of the leading psyheads of L.A. Psytribe’s, Spyros has been one of the biggest influences of Los Angeles’s Psy Trance Scene, known for his heavy and expressive night time sets and uplifting morning full-on sounds with pinches of progressive beats.
And we wish them a happy 10th anniversary bash on August 18th When they present “A decade of Psychedelic bliss” and hopefully a decade more….

Brian Rae (GreenSector)
We’re also happy as hell to have Brian Rae from (GreenSector) to throw down some of his hypnotic progressive beats, Brian began his career in the electronic music world in 2002 setting up sound systems at various events in LA. During this time he took a liking to the music he was hearing and began collecting. In 2005 he began to DJ and quickly became a resident with Greensector. Since then he has played his selection of deep groovy progressive all over the deserts, forests, and beaches of California.

Armando ( TerraKroma)

Armando comes straight from Cochabamba Bolivia, where he’s played in many events, hypnotizing people with his progressive grooves since 2000. Armando is one of the co-founders of Moontravelers organization, which has been one of the biggest festival organizers in Bolivia, touring around the country and helping start the engine that pushed the electronic scene in his country. All ready helping establish the rock solid psychedelic foundation in Bolivia, 2005 Armando moved out to California, and helped formed TerraKroma and now he is ready to release his first album on monobeat records along with Andrew (Earth Bag).

EarthBag (TerraKroma)

It's been two years since Andrew Schiavone (earth bag) tranceplanted himself from the east coast to now out to the west coast in california, where he has been playing live sets and djing since 2002. Armed with a great knowledge of audio engineering and production, he started up Monobeat Records, and now is one of the co-founders of Terrakroma. His music has evolved in many ways spanning time, as the grooves shifted, the progressive world came front in center in his sets.

Gabriel Valda (TerraKroma)

Gabriel Valda another wonderous import from Bolivia, he's been producing and djing since 2000, playing in numerous festivals and parties including the earthdance. Afterwards he relocated to Boston, and he immediately planted his roots in the scene with live and dj acts. He moved out to the west coast in California, and helped co-found TerraKroma. Gabriel's aural expressivness is distinct, pumpin out phat psychedelic progressive grooves and breaks. Gabriel won't disappoint.

Get ready for something entirely different.

On April 13th the Bay Area joins the world in celebration of space exploration in a unique convergence of artists, scientists, astronauts, performers and musicians.

Yuri's Night is a commemoration of humankind’s first venture into space, by Russian Cosmonaut Yuri Gagarin. This gathering bridges national, cultural, generational and social barriers to ignite excitement about what is new on the horizon in space exploration and to remind us of the magnificent feats humanity is capable of.

Yuri's Night Bay Area will be held at Moffett Field in the NASA Ames Research Center's massive SOFIA hangar, home to the world's largest aerial observatory. Our host for the evening is pioneering space traveler Anousheh Anasari, the first privately funded female to reach orbit. She is joined by Dr. Chris McKay, world renowned expert in astrobiology and terraformation with the Space Science Division of NASA Ames Research Center, as they welcome you to a dazzling array of interactive art installations and science demos, interwoven with musical and acrobatic performances by some of the world's finest entertainers.

I find occasional references on the net to this chap, Wolfgang Ewing. He is quoted as a source of inspriation for Basic Channel etc. But I cant find any of his records or anything but the most sparse information about him and his music. If anyone knows anything about this guy, his music and/or can point me in the direction of somewhere I can hear his tunes, I'd be grateful...

what is the current face of dubtech?

I try to pick up any dubtech records I come across, but they are few and far between in this chilled boreal plains city. I tend to get most of my tracks from netlabels: thinner, epsilonlab, stadtgruen, textone, to name a few.
Where is everyone finding good stuff?

And are their any artists that are really pushing the genre forward?
My favourites include Nulleins, Digitalis, krill.minima, bluetech, alex smoke, metope.

Omnimotion- Dream Wide Awake (Aleph Zero)

Omnimotion- Dream Wide Awake (AlephZ06)

Aleph Zero is proud to present... A New Omnimotion Album!!!

After four years of recording, producing and composing new music in his Ambium Studio based in Stockholm, Sweden, Omnimotion is finally back with a second album. Utilizing inspirations and knowledge he picked up along his very diverse musical path, Stefan has created Dream Wide Awake. The album contains the best musical gems that were carefully chosen from the music that accumulated in this four year period. It is a beautifully mellow yet optimistic album, with a strong acoustic presence. Dream Wide Awake is an incredibly diverse album. It features eight different vocalists- from a rapper to an opera singer- and many guest musicians with an array of instruments including the violin, accordion, guitar, drums, harp & flute. The outcome hovers between the electronic and the acoustic, the hypnotic and the melodic, between abstract ambient and mellow songs, between dubby songs and IDM glitches. Omnimotion weaves and paints here an emotional musical journey that must not be missed and will leave you dreaming wide awake.

Track list:
1. Nothingness
2. Being
3. Days of Silence (feat. Aleah)
4. Wide Awake (feat. Krister Linder)

Hi folks...

Im Clare Large, a DJ and producer from the UK. Been coming to the USA and Canada at least once a year for the past 4 years or so to spin and hang out and write beats...

I'm coming to SF for Burning Man and have freed up some dates, Sept 5-29th and I'd love to come and spin for some of you sometime during those. What's going on?? Sorry its a bit later than normal this year, had to wait for some other gigs to confirm and some others not to, so I knew I had these weeks free.

I spin all kinds of underground house, techno and broken beats. I have a deep tech house PA pretty much ready to go as well, and I'd love to get gigs either DJing or playing live.

I need to book my flight real soon. If Im too late or there's not much happening I will likely go back to London earlier as I have tons going on...love to hang out, party and spin for as many of you as I can... I have sooooooooooooooooo many phat beats Im dying to share with y'all and i really hope we can do good things in September.

Please rsvp ASAP!!! Big hugs and see you soon, Clare xx

Hey everyone, I just arrived back in New York to visit and to kick off a tour doing 20 shows around the United States.
For the last 8 months I have been living in Berlin and it has been a total trip.
It feels good to be back in the states and I am hoping to see all my New York friends together this Monday at Deep Space where I will be doing my only NY show.
It will be a special night doing an all-live global dub soundsystem with Last Poets legend Umar Bin Hassan, who also was on the last Common record as well as Trumpet playing madman Satish on horn and electronics.
And of course resident DJ, Francois K.
Please come and join me, catch up with good friends in a fun night!!

www.deepspacenyc.com

Step back, all ye wannabe rappers and check out one of
the originals who made hip hop possible. Before Africa
Bambaata was throwing parties in the Bronx, before
Prince Whipper Whip was rocking with the Fantastic 5
and before the Rock Steady Crew ever attempted their
first windmills, Umar Bin Hassan and the Last Poets
were making rhythm and poetry live on the streets of
Harlem.
Thirty years later a number of the more socially and
politically conscious emcees are planning a tribute
album to the Last Poets featuring Common, Dead
Prez, Chuck D, Keith Murray, Buckshot, Kanye West,
Erykah Badu and others.
Since 1999, Brooklyn Producer/DJ Dub Gabriel and Last
Poets’s founder Umar Bin Hassan have collaborated in
many ways.
First with Umar’s now legendary appearance on Dub
Gabriel’s Baraka Orchestra album, Then with Dub
Gabriel and Prof. Shehab releasing Umar’s album
produced by Bill Laswell. Gabriel’s Current album
“Bass Jihad” is a modern Middle Eastern Dub
masterpiece being compared by Billboard magazine to
Brian Eno as well as on the best of 2005 list from
many magazines and radio stations from around the
world.
The night will be a celebration of not only the return
meeting of these two artist, but also it will be the
first time Dub Gabriel is in New York since moving to
Berlin Germany 8 months ago.
This legendary night will feature Dub Gabriel\s
Brooklyn Massive soundsystem doing all live dubbing
and music creating. as well as Trumpet maestro Satish
on the dub trumpet and surprise guest!!
and of course your host and pilot for the evening on
the ones and twos Mr. Francois K.!!

new Dub Tech mix online

Hi all,
I have just posted a new mix on my web site: www.imageecology.com/djbad.html

It's a mix of roots, dub, tech-dub, dubby house, dubby breaks, and all around great bass sounds. Definitely a homage to the Jamaican roots of the music I like.

Enjoy!

Garth aka DJ Bad

ps - check the pretty pictures on the main site (www.imageecology.com) while you're there - I do artist bios, CD covers, flyers, posters, etc...

Open call for artist submissions: online mp3 store

Hello everyone. If you are in a band or just making music on your own and wondering how to distribute it - this post applies to you. My friends and I (musicians in our own right) have an online mp3 store called Fake Science. Focusing on independent artists and labels, we offer a free site where bands like you can put your music up for sale. We pass 60% of gross sales directly back to you, allow you to administer your own releases, tracks, track samples, and bio info. We also show you your sales with geographic data showing you where your music is selling.

While the rest of the industry is motioning to charge more and more for digital music, Fake Science is charging less. We sell digital full-length albums for $5, and EPs for $2. The low price and the high percentage back to the artist tells your customers (we call them patrons) that they are not getting ripped off and that most of the money is going to the important people, namely you.

We launched at the end of 2005 and we’re looking to get more music on the site as we grow. If you’ve got some great music and don’t know where to economically make it available for sale to your fans, check us out. It is free to you, and reasonably cheap to your fans.

We’re a legit group, so if you are interested you should know that there are official documents involved. But we’re up and rolling with an impressive set of new artists and labels. It’s blowing up.

Check it out. FakeScience.com We look forward to hearing from you.

kind of a shame they stopped when they did... they were really starting to diversify in interesting ways. i.e. matrix and his ultra-minimal hyper-knarz-dub, or the very organic sounds of hallucinator. have either of these two guys done anything off of CR?

BEAT CHURCH 5/19

Beat church @ nikkies on thursday night, may 19th. We are happy to bring you
dj/ producer Mozaic from santa cruz. some of his key styles are breaks,
tech-house, electro, tribal, IDM, etc- sexy, psychedelic, groovy, grinding;
but mostly a general dislike for "genre" boundaries. he is a really tight
mixer and a very sweet guy.

- about half the set will consist of new and recent co-productions and remixes,
including the M.I.A. remix; (Galang) that he and co-producer corey from s.c. did
together.
coming off some really great moments at beltane, the last full moon party
in santa cruz, meta, 1015, etc; you can expect more of the same fun
moments........and maybe, just maybe, he might have some vocals to throw
down (he's also an amazing r&b/gospel-soul singer!).
we're looking forward to another sweaty night (the last one
was sultry and dripping at the seams)
with residents: Kitty-d (Kitty-ology)
& Neptune (Spiritech)
We're gonna rock this one, then head down to santa cruz for a
beautiful 2 day campout (raindance), then neptune, myself, random
rab, ooah, s.o.t.e.g., and goldilox are gonna rock the austin
burningman towards the end of the month.
While we're gone, Dov (muti music) will be holding it down for us
at beat church with others T.B.A. on june 2nd.
Upcoming artists that we're bringing in:
Son Of The Electric Ghost (S.O.T.E.G./ bless records)
Govinda (Six Degrees, Buddha Bar)
DJ Laura (E.F.L.)
Goldilox (Brass Tax)
Bassnectar (Bassnectar.net)
Thanks for all the support, without y'all this nice little shindig would not
be possible!!!

WHAT THE REVIEWS ARE SAYING!!!!!!!

SMOTHER.NET
Blending urban sounds of dub with ethnic complex rhythms, Dub Gabriel’s “Bass Jihad” is a relentless assault on your body—you will have to dance the entire length of the album. Personally I love dub, though for a lot of folks it’s an acquired taste that most unfortunately aren’t willing to develop. But if you’re ever interested in hearing some of the best dub out there you must pick up this essential album. The songs swirl about in this cerebral musical landscape that boasts tremendous space while not feeling like it’s missing something. Production-wise the album is jaw-dropping with its low-end frequencies perfectly tweaked for even the worst speakers out there. I can’t complement this album enough; you have to hear it for yourself!
http://www.smother.net/reviews/techno.php3?ID=316

PASTE MAGAZINE
4 stars
Educated in the Laswellian school of bass-heavy
deconstruction,Brooklyn-based producer/DJ/four-stringer Dub Gabriel returns with another exploration of Arabic-leaning landscapes tuned to the sound of his namesake.
A confluence of warlike rhythms (hence the album
title) are ingeniously layered by an analog flurry of percussion, mizmar(reed pipe) and ney(Turkish flute). The 11-track record plays like a Kubrickian soundtrack
for future societies where all the world’s instruments are thrown into one circle and the orgy is conducted by none other than the archangel Gabriel himself.

DOWNTOWN MUSIC GALLERY
This is my man Dub Gabriel's second solo effort and again he's got it down. Our hero has worked with Bill Laswell, Qaballah Steppers, Baraka Orchestra and Samara Sound System. His first solo disc, 'Ascend' from last year was one of the few great dub efforts I've heard in recent memory. He is back again with a little help from Mark Deutsch on bazantar (an acoustic bass-like invention), Subluna on didgeridoo, Fred Stubbs on ney, Ahad Nazarzadeh on saz and a couple of MC's Young Sand and Khalil. Dub Gabriel is a strong producer, always doing an enchanting job of layering a swirling array of exotic percussion, cosmic snaking-charming double reeds, thick bass and mesmerizing echoed guitars and keyboards. This swell, sly music is mostly instrumental, the groove and ambiance always intoxicating. The occasional vocal bits are often sampled and used like another tasty ingredient in this mysterious and delectable stew. Yo Dub-mon, this sh*t is pretty ripe, supremely righteous and completely groovy! Word! – BLG

Hello everyone,

I've been lurking for quite sometime and I'd finally like to introduce myself. My name is Darrin and I'm a digital audio engineer working for Sony Music.
I'm also an electronic musician who performs under the name Liquid Acrobat. For a limited time I'm making all the songs from my newest CD Release Warm Atlantis available as a free 128kbps MP3 download. You can find the trax at the following URL

http://www.liquidacrobat.com/liquidacrobat/music/index.html

Below is a description of the album.

Warm Atlantis is my debut full length CD album. Composed between 1999 and 2003 this album takes you on a journey through 60's Psychedelia, Dub, Raga, and Trip Hop. The beats are heavily cut up and broken at times, the bass thick and bubbling under and the effects are totally Dubbed out. The album was mixed using my Pan Ambient Sound Theory and composed using chance methods like Brian Eno's Oblique Strategies and the I-Ching.

enjoy!!

I'd love to hear what you peeps think of my work. email me @ liquidacrobat@dancemusicshop.com

peace,
Liquid A

Music Recommendations...

So, I've been hearing some good stuff lately in the minimal tech/micro-house vein.

Ricardo Villalobos - Alcafocha - This record is pure brilliance. Stripped minimal funk with a strong penchant for melodic interplay, and vocals.... yes, vocals, albeit recontextualized, vocoded, and flavored with a dash of graininess. Far from being cheesy, they add a very human element to an otherwise digital form. Minimal tech with soul? Increasingly rare, but much wellcome. I always find it inspiring when folks can use en established genre as a springboard to explore something new... Highly recommend for fans of the Playhouse, Perlon, Force Tracks aesthetic.

Any recommendations?

New Perlon - Kalabrese

What do people think of this release?

I think it's one of the worst releases ever on Perlon! I think it would make a decent instrumental 12", but combined with the vocals, it's just vomit-inducing. I haven't been too thrilled with the last set of Perlon 12"s either ie. Morane and Phil Parnell.
